broken glass, broken blow

For me, this applies.  One of the markers of growth is death. You know you’re growing when people around you start dying. Today, I know I have grown because I lost a mentor, I lost a friend.

I am known for being mischievous and for bending the rules. He was one of those people who allowed me to be that part of me. During laboratory classes, he would welcome me to his work area and he would let me smoke away. We would discuss about my family, his family, and most of all, he would squeeze a lesson or two on the nature of his work.

I liked him a lot. We were pals. Sometimes when I got bored or I had nothing to do, I would pay him a visit when he is working and he would allow me to help him out in what he was doing. If I was lucky, I could take home a treat - once he made me a cat figurine in just a few minutes.

Known to many as simply Mang Nato or even the Glassblower, to me he was one of the kindest and most generous people in the Institute of Chemistry (IC). If I broke a glassware, which was very often, I run to him and ask for help. He would do anything and everything in order that I won’t have to buy a replacement. And in the process of repairing, he would explain what he was doing. And in order to save some money, I asked him to make me some Pasteur pipettes from a glass tubing which I bought. He did it for free. I never was able to pay him back with a treat.

I always wanted to learn what he did. It was fascinating. He would blow here and there, snip here, cut there, pull here, twist there. It was like magic! And to add to the idea, silver dust were all over the place. Of course, they really were not silver dust, they were ‘glass dust’, produced by the breaking of thin film of glass created when heated glass is blown.

I guess IC will not be as complete without Mang Nato. It is such a loss. I don’t think anyone could be as dedicated and as qualified as he was, not only as a glassblower, a mentor, but also as a friend.

Thank you for everything Mang Nato. I am sorry for not being able to do more for you. That room beside the ChemSoc office, it shall forever be yours.

the who?!

sino na nga ba iyong philosopher/writer na kinulong pero he continued to write to the extent na ginamit nya ang sarili niyang blood at feces para makapagsulat sa walls ng kanyang cell?

i think in order to discredit him, the king/queen/leader had to tell everyone that he was crazy or that he was the devil personified.

i really dont quite remember his story but i know that if i saw his name on a list, i would positively be able to identify him.

help.

happy new year.

INQUIRY

a. laging wala sa class during lab,
i. napaka unprofessional and biased?

in short, justifiable ba na magjudge ng laboratory performance and incompetent laboratory instructor?

Student A:
a. hindi friendly sa lab instructor
b. maingay

Student B:
a. civil sa lab instructor
b. kaharutan usually ni student A
c. magaling sa laboratory techniques
d. usually late
e. lumalabas sa class para magyosi
f. nagpeperform pag nasa loob ng class
g. nagtetext or tumatawag pag nasa loob ng class
h. minsan (as in minsan lang din, pero minsan pa din) hindi nakakasagot sa tanong ng teacher reagarding sa procedure

---------------

respect is not demanded, it is earned (unless you are me, then it is a given. haha) did it ever occur to those unrespected that the reason why students treat them the way they do is because of their own doing?

it is my hope that the administration be alerted regarding the unfairness and incompetence of its teaching staff. lahat ng nagaaral, gago man o hindi, ay nageexpect ng fairness and justice. lahat ng nagaaral, gago man o hindi ay gusto rin makatapos.

-------------

author's note: ang student A ay walang hinanakit or negative feelings towards student B. actually, labs nga niya ito.

Ding Hao Chinese Restaurant

Rating:★★
Category:Restaurants
Cuisine: Chinese
Location:Calamba, Laguna
Price: reasonable. what do you expect from the only descent Chinese restaurant in the vicinity?

Tea: disgusting. it had a burnt smell and taste. it was too strong - unreasonably strong.

Service: informal. does not agree with the price and the ambiance.

Place: big tables, big plates, high ceiling. well, technically it shows what a 'classy' restaurant it is.

Food: the food was ok. it tasted good enough. Serving agreed with the price. Rice at 18 pesos per (half) a cup seemed a little too pricey for me.

and the reason why i dont like the restaurant:

THEY DO NOT SERVE DIMSUM!!!! how could you be a Chinese restaurant and not serve dimsum? crazy!
